We have a new member of the Trinh-Goodman family to announce. We just completed the adoption of a wonderful four year old German Shepard rescue named Sheri.
We found Sheri through a local rescue here in Jersey City called A Call 4 Paws. It is run by a wonderful woman named Linda who truly pours her heart into rescuing animals that the shelters are unable or unwilling to take.
It’s been a hard winter for me. I work from home, which can be very lonely at times. It’s been a year since our Maltese passed away and I missed him as my working buddy. I needed a new companion.
I went on to Petfinder.com to search for a dog in our local area. I found a Beagle named Lucky who I liked a lot. I called Linda and she told me a little more about Lucky and also mentioned she had a great German Shepard she wanted to introduce me to. I made an appointment to see Lucky but mentioned to my partner that Linda had a German Shepard she wanted me to see. Duc, my partner, gave me strict instructions. 1) Don’t come home with a dog. 2) Don’t get involved with a German Shepard.
So I went to see Lucky the Beagle but knew that Sheri the German Shepard would be joining us for a walk in the park. I got to Linda’s place and the door opened and out bound Lucky. Immediately I thought, this is a great dog, this isn’t a dog for me, but this is a great dog. Then Sheri came out to great me and it was instant love.
All I had to do now was convince Duc that this was the dog for us. I scheduled with Linda for Duc to see both dogs on the Friday during the huge snow storm of February 2010. Duc fell in love with Sheri as quickly as I did. We knew we had found the right dog but wanted to be cautious knowing she was a rescue.
Linda felt the best thing to do was for us to take Sheri into our home for a two night pet sit. If anything went wrong she would be available to take the dog back immediately. By Sunday afternoon we called Linda to say we were adopting Sheri. It’s been a little more than a week. Sheri is such a bright spot in our lives. We feel so fortunate knowing she started out as a rescue and comes to us with one simple motive…being loved. Adopt a rescue today!!
